Privacy Friendly WiFi Manger App

The maintenance of this app has been discontinued. No further updates are planned

Privacy Friendly WiFi-Manager helps you automatically turning on/off your WiFi while you are not near a known WiFi. It keeps track of the cell tower ids in your area while you are connected to a Wi-Fi. By keeping this information, the app tries to learn where your WiFi is located without using GPS.

The Privacy Friendly WiFi-Manager app preserves your privacy by tracking least necessary data. All data is kept on your phone. No data is sent to anybody. We also try to use least permissions possible.

In the following points the Privacy Friendly WiFi Manager differs from other similar apps:

  1. Coarse Location.
This permission is required to get information about nearby cell towers.
  2. Access and change WiFi state.
This permission is required to toggle the WiFi according to the preset rules.
  3. Wake lock.
This permission is needed to run the WiFi toggle service in the background.
  4. No advertisement.
Many other free apps in the Google Play Store dazzle annoying advertising and also shortens battery life.

Note for CyanogenMod users (or users of CyanogenMod-based distributions):
Due to a bug in CyanogenMod 13 you have to enable the location service, also known as GPS, in your settings (in addition to the coarse location permission). Otherwise, no WiFi networks can be found.
