Privacy Friendly Food Tracker App
Privacy Friendly Food Tracker makes it possible to track daily calorie consumption without sharing your eating habits with third parties.
To do this, the user can enter all consumed products along with their weights. The app then calculates the total amount of calories and allows for an analysis of caloric consumption over a larger timeframe.
Privacy Friendly Food Tracker differs in a few points from other, similar food trackers:
No collection of data: Absolutely no data about the user is collected and/or processed by the developers of this app or another third party. The database with entries is encrypted to guarantee absolute privacy.
No permissions: This app does not need any permissions. Only internet access is needed for the search function.
No advertisements: There are no trackers or advertisements of any kind. This increases battery lifetime and reduces or eliminates data usage by this app.
What features are included in this app?
Calendar overview: Opening the app opens a calendar overview. Choosing a day in the calendar leads to an overview for this day with all entries as well as the total number of consumed calories for that day.
Daily overview: Each day has its own overview that allows to see all consu- med products for the day. Touching an entry allows to edit the consumed amount of the product, touching the “+“ symbol in the corner allows adding an entry for the day. Touching an entry for a longer time enables deletion mode, where a single entry or even multiple entries can be deleted.
Adding an entry: The user can add a new entry by entering calorie amount per 100 grams, the consumed amount in grams as well as the name of the product. Alternatively, calorie amount per 100g and the name of the product can be pre-filled by using the search function.
Search function: The app includes a search function for products. Initially, the search screen shows a list of consumed products ordered by how fre- quently they are consumed by the user. Typing a word in the search mask then starts searching the names of already used products for this word. If the wanted product was not found, the user can touch the “search“ symbol to start an online search with the “OpenFoodFacts“ database.
Statistics: Privacy Friendly Food Tracker includes a possibility of creating and viewing statistics. Here, the user can see calorie amount consumed per week as well as per month. Additionally, the daily calorie consumption per day is displayed graphically.
Please note: The online search requests data from the database at “OpenFoodFacts“. This theoretically allows the database to track eating habits via search requests. If you want absolute privacy, you should therefore not use the online search function (An online search is only started when the “search“ button is touched). The app works just as well without the search function.
