The SECUSO (Security, Usability and Society) research group is part of the Institute for Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) at the KIT Faculty of Economics. The focus of our research is on people: we want to investigate human factors in the areas of security and privacy in more detail. In doing so, we want to develop mechanisms that, on the one hand, adequately protect the security and privacy of users, but on the other hand, are also very user-friendly. Furthermore, awareness-raising and training measures for this topic are being developed.

One of our tasks at SECUSO is the development and support of Privacy Friendly Apps. These apps are an alternative to apps that request unnecessary permissions and misuse user data without the knowledge of their users. Our collection of Privacy Friendly Apps is expanded and improved each year through students participating in the SECUSO Lab.

Tasks:

The areas of responsibility can vary depending on your interests. 

• Android Development
  • Development of new and of existing Privacy Friendly Apps
• Community Management
  • Communication with users of Privacy Friendly Apps via GitHub, Google Play Store and email requests
  • Maintenance of the app projects on GitHub

Requirements:

• Independent, autonomous and structured working style

• Interest in Android development

• Programming skills in Java and/or Kotlin

• Basic knowledge of IT security is advantageous
